Once you become pregnant you might find that unsolicited advice comes at you almost constantly. This can vary from the practical and useful to the maddening and patronising. My personal fave is a certain NHS website advising pregnant people to see if their partners will help take on some of the womanly household chores when you’re very tired. But only when you’re very tired ok?!

Anyway, here’s my top tips for pregnancy that you also didn’t ask for, but might actually want.

Something I think about a lot of what makes a positive birth and how can I as a hypnobirthing instructor strike the right balance between positivity and going for the birth you want, and understanding that there are so many variables in birth and you can’t control every aspect of it.

I think that thinking like this is a great start. If you understand what has happened and have made informed decisions and given proper consent then you are far more likely to feel positive about your birth.

Remember that the health and wellbeing of you is just as important as it is for your baby.

A handy acronym to remember for life, and definitely pregnancy and birth.

Originally coined by Planned Parenthood, FRIES is a good tool to use to ensure TRUE consent is being given.

If you feel at any point that any of these is not true for what is being asked of you, then you’re not truly giving consent.

Just a few weeks to go until this in person group course kicks off at The Oulton Institute in Leeds!

This course is a full antenatal course, perfect for anyone expecting a baby in 2025!

Courses are very relaxed, but super informative, designed to give you all the information and tools to get the best possible experience from giving birth and heading into parenthood! Whether that’s for your first baby, second, third or fourth (or fifth etc etc!)

I’ll be running free taster sessions online during January to give you a feel for what to expect.
