Here’s a bit about me and why I chose to get into Hypnobirthing

I had my daughter at the end of 2021 and before I got pregnant, like many people, I really hadn’t given much thought to giving birth apart from the dramatic scenes we often see in films and on TV (Rachel and Phoebe in Friends stick out as core memories for me!).  I had heard of friends who had done Hypnobirthing before so it made sense to me as a pretty anxious person that feeling knowledgeable and prepared for birth would help me have a more positive experience.

My partner and I downloaded an online hypnobirthing course sometime in my second trimester. I found it really helpful, and it helped me to feel more positive and calm during pregnancy too. Then the birth rolled around, and although for the most part the experience was positive and calm, a cascade of interventions meant that I was ultimately left feeling like a failure for not ‘getting birth right’ or not having a ‘perfect, natural birth’. I also realised that the reality of the maternity system as it is in the UK today meant that I was ill prepared for the realities of this system and how quickly things can escalate and leave you feeling traumatised.

You may be wondering why I still love hypnobirthing and want to teach it to others?! Well, I know that my experience was greatly helped with the hypnobirthing tools I learned, BUT I also know now that great hypnobirthing courses equip birthers and birth partners with the knowledge and tools to advocate for themselves in pregnancy, labour and beyond.

This is what I feel most passionate about – imparting evidence-based knowledge on birth rights that truly have the birther and baby’s best interests at heart. As well as some lovely tools to help you relax and have the most positive experience possible, no matter what your birth entails.
